Amy T.
Ivy-league educated Amy T. (not her real name) turned to Bottomless Closet after surviving nearly three decades of spousal abuse. Amy met her ex-husband while attending the University of Chicago. They went on to wed and enroll in graduate programs at Harvard University together. During their marriage, Amy followed her husband as his career as an international consultant took them to four continents.
While Amy previously held positions with significant responsibility, the constant relocating left little opportunity for her to find and keep a stable job. This lack of job security made the possibility of leaving her abusive marriage all the more difficult.
Despite this, Amy gathered up the courage to pack up her life and escape to Chicago to live with her ailing, elderly mother. This decision left her displaced from her home and destitute. She received no financial support or assistance for job training and retooling in her divorce settlement, which is what led her to Bottomless Closet’s doors.
Bottomless Closet provided her with clothing and accessories that she needed to present a professional, polished appearance that has helped her regain self pride during a very difficult phase in her life. She has worn the Bottomless Closet clothes and accessories to job interviews, professional networking events and even her daughter’s wedding.
While she is no longer afraid of being physically assaulted at home, Amy still struggles with the harsh reality of finding stable employment in an unstable economic environment. Though Amy never imagined that her life would evolve the way it has, she is hopeful that she will forge a new path thanks to resources that Bottomless Closet has provided her.
